cps aDVANCED aRTS vOCAL pROGRAM![]() Vocal Arts - Honors (School-year program)
In collaboration with the Chicago Public Schools the teens participating in this program receive double honors credit. CPS/Advanced Arts Program/HHW Vocal Ensemble (School-year program)This class is geared towards teaching students how to acquire the artistic and academic skills necessary for real success in the real world of the professional vocal artists. Through vocal performance and methods, vocal performing arts students are introduced and heavily engaged in classical and contemporary vocal repertoire, the application of written music and aural music theory application, vocal health and care, foreign language diction, stage presentation, blocking and choreography. Classes are designed for preparation into a college conservatory and careerprograms in vocal music performance. Students also study vocal arts through intensified studies and are given opportunities to enter solo and ensemble contests. Activity Description
Techniques for Professional Singers - "The Triple Threat Edition" is an interactive workshop that exposes performing artists to the key components to stand confidently to the realm of performing arts as a soloist and ensemble member. With an emphasis on stage presence/movement, vocal identity, and character development - teens will learn what it takes to be competitive in the world of expressive arts. Teens will be equipped with the fundamental attributes of what it takes to be a "Triple Threat". Instruction also includes basic elements of acting, stage movement, music theory, dance, and stage production. The program features a final performance.
Program Benefits
The performing arts itself renders an outlet to the "real world". Teens will learn how to create a performance resume; how to market themselves as a performer; personal branding; the importance of networking; the pros and cons of joining an industry union; what they can and cannot do when they join an industry union; degrees of separation from the great and greatest in the performance world; Dealing with criticisms during an audition; Choosing the right auditions and materials for performances. In addition teens will receive a monetary award for their participation.
Program Impact Statement
The HHW Triple Threat Program teen objectives include: Stage Presence, Vocal identity, Character Development, and Artist Branding. These objectives will be met via Theater Games, Vocalizing, Speech Development, developing a Theater Voice, Reading the scripts aloud to the company/ensemble; critiquing the characters of each person; plus, learning how to accept the critiques of their fellow artisans. Teens will present a showcase, which will be open to the public at an accessible location.

Monday thru Thursday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
